Things to know before choosing Semi-metallic or ceramic brake pads:
Semi -Metallic:
Semi Metallic Brake pads are composed of anywhere 30-65% metal by weight. Metals like copper, steel and iron. Good for everyday use for passenger cars. While ceramic brakes take a longer time to heat up and therefore reach their full capacity at a later stage semi-metallic brake pads have the perfect braking temperature from the start. These pads are generally slightly Noisier than ceramic Brake pads and create more dust bites.
Ceramic Brake pads:
Ceramic Brake pads have been newer on the market. These brake pads are composed of dense ceramic compounds and copper fibres. These pads are generally quieter while they cause less friction than semi metallic brake pads and create lower dust bites. Ceramic brake pads last longer than semi-metallic brake pads. It is also important to note that these pads hold a lot less heat than Semi metallic pads which makes them better for High Horse power cars, racing and heavy trucking. Good in stop and go conditions for example, on steep hills and mountains.
